Question 1...
Red 14 is running down the wing with only the opposition
fullback to beat. He chips over the fullback, runs around him and
the ball comes to rest in the in-goal area. When 14 is just about
to ground the ball for a try a spectator kicks the ball over the
dead ball line. What do you do?
Award a try. Law 6.A.11. The referee judges what would have
happened next and awards a try or touch down at the place where the
ball was touched.
Question 2...
Red 14 is running down the wing and as he reaches the opposition
10 metre line a spectator trips him up. What do you do?
Award a scrum to red 5 metres in from touch opposite where the
trip took place. Law 20.4 (d). After any other stoppage or
irregularity not covered by Law, the team that was moving forward
before the stoppage throws in the ball. If neither team was moving
forward, the attacking team throws in the ball.
Question 3...
Reds, the attacking side launch a high kick which whilst
in the air carries into the opposition in-goal where the opposition
full back cleanly catches it and calls for a mark. You
correctly award the mark. That team then say "we will scrum instead
of kick Sir." What do you do?
You award the scrum. Law 18.6. (a) The team of the player who
made the mark may choose to take a scrum. That was the easy
bit, where is the scrum taken from? Law 18.6.(b) If the mark
is in-goal the scrum is 5 metres from the goal line on a line
through the mark, and at least 5 metres from the
touchline.
