The questions below refer only to the New Regulations on Front Row Replacements. Others can be found in the 'library' on the right. This will be added as new questions and answers are submitted. Please check these sections and if your question is not there please submit it.

Question 1...

Do these regulations apply at all ages and levels.

No. The regulations are not applicable at school and youth matches but to all regulated leagues which in effect covers 1st team league games.

For 2nd team and below merit leagues it is up to the area competition organiser. If in doubt outside of 1st team leagues then seek pre match agreement between both Captains as to the regulations on the day.

Question 2...

Before the game a side declare they have no front row replacements, do we start with them at 14 players only?

No, at this stage there is not a  problem so they can start the game contested. Should they lose a FR the question is then asked if they have a suitable replacement, if not scrums go to uncontested (except blood injury) and go to 14 men.

Question 3...

Before the game a side declare they can only go uncontested as they have no hooker. Do I start the game ?

Yes, the game will start with uncontested scrums, that side though will only have 14 players.

Question 4...

If one side is reduced in the scrum to 7 players do the opposition have to drop a player in the scrum .

No, not at senior rugby, at under 19 level numbers in scrums must always match.

Question 5...

A Front Row player is red  or yellow carded and there is an unused front row player on the bench - can another player (maybe flank forward) can still be taken off to allow FRF replacement to come on and keep contested scrums for either the 10mins or completion of the game.

Yes, this is no change from last season. The choice of which player shall make way is their choice
